Your information

This policy explains what information The Abiding Post collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

01 · Website information

Information collected through the website

Our website address is https://theabidingpost.com.

Comments and profiles

If visitors leave comments, we collect the information entered in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent information to help detect spam.

An anonymized string created from an email address may be provided to Gravatar to determine whether the visitor uses that service. Gravatar operates under its own privacy policy.

If website accounts are offered, registered users and administrators can view and edit profile information, except that usernames cannot be changed through the standard profile tools.

Media

If you upload an image, avoid including embedded location information such as EXIF GPS data. Visitors may be able to download images and extract embedded location information.

02 · Cookies and outside content

Cookies and third-party services

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies ordinarily last for one year.

The login page may set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. Login and display-preference cookies may also be used for signed-in users. Selecting “Remember Me” extends the login period, and logging out removes the login cookies.

Editing or publishing content may save a cookie containing the edited post’s identification number. It contains no personal data and expires automatically.

Embedded content

Pages may include videos, images, articles, or other content provided by outside websites. Embedded content behaves as though you visited the outside website directly. Those providers may collect information, use cookies, and monitor your interaction under their own privacy practices.

03 · Memberships and payments

Gift and payment information

When someone purchases a gift membership, we collect the purchaser’s name and email address, the recipient’s name and U.S. mailing address, the selected plan and first-mailing choice, and the purchaser’s plain-text gift message.

We use this information to process payment, prepare the printed gift card, fulfill mailings, provide customer support, prevent fraud, and meet legal and accounting requirements.

Payment is completed on Stripe-hosted pages. We send Stripe the purchaser’s email address and an internal order reference, but not the recipient’s mailing address or gift message. The Abiding Post does not store complete card details.

The recipient is not automatically emailed. The purchaser’s gift message is printed for the first mailing.

Authorized site administrators can view gift and mailing records. Abandoned checkouts are automatically anonymized after 48 hours. Other eligible records are anonymized after the configured retention period, while active or legally required records may be retained longer.

04 · Retention and choices

How information is retained and protected

Retention

Comments and their metadata may be retained so follow-up comments can be recognized. Account information may remain available while an account is active. Membership and order information is retained only as needed for checkout, fulfillment, support, fraud prevention, accounting, and applicable legal obligations.

Your choices

If you have an account, have submitted an order, or have left comments, you may request an export of personal information associated with you. You may also request deletion of eligible information. We may retain information that remains necessary for service, administrative, legal, security, or accounting purposes.

Where information may be sent

Visitor comments may be processed through an automated spam-detection service. Password-reset requests may include the requester’s IP address in the reset email. Payment information described above is handled through Stripe.
